LaShunda and her three children Nadjae (17), LaScelles (15), and Canaan (10) have had so much faith that God would provide a home for them, and we are so excited to build their home in 2015. LaShunda has always wanted to be a homeowner, and has worked very hard towards this goal. When LaShunda was working towards her teaching degree, after all three children had been born, she stayed up nights until three or four o’clock in the morning to complete all of her studies. She wanted to be able to spend as much time with the children as she could, and always keep their special Wednesday family night. She graduated with honors, and is now working in education.
LaShunda was initially given instructions that she would need to improve her credit before being accepted as a partner family with Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County. Little by little she was able to cut back on vacations and gifts around the holidays. She recalled one Christmas where her family was given gifts from three different groups, and with all of their savings she was able to shrink her credit report summary from seven or eight pages down to one. LaShunda applied again and was told the affiliate would consider her for the spring application intake. She prayed and counted on God, asking Him to provide for her family after their difficult road.
Speaking with LaShunda about her faith will give you chills, and her family’s story is an inspiration in perseverance. Sure enough, the family was selected as a 2015 partner family and is so excited to choose their lot and build plans. Giving her children a home was one of LaShunda’s most fervent prayers, and moving into their own home would be the biggest event in their lives as a family.
