Question 1: How long have you been involved with Habitat, and what got you interested in the organization?
I have been on the Board for the past 3 years. But prior to that I have worked with Habitat around the country for over 20 years. I have helped build houses in Illinois, Indiana, Texas, North Carolina, Mississippi & Louisiana.
Question 2: Do you get involved in builds personally? If so, what do you like working on?
Yes I love to build homes. They do not let me paint (for good reason) so I hammer nails.
Question 3: Habitat has been around a long time, but people sometimes have misconceptions. What is a myth that you'd like to correct about the program?
The biggest myth is that we give out FREE HOUSES. This is just not true. Every Habitat family gets a zero interest mortgage that is usually amortized over a 20 yr. period. Plus each family has to have hundreds of hours of logged time helping build other people's homes, working in our restore, building their home & taking finance classes as well as homeownership classes.
Question 4: Do you have any personal stories of interactions with clients that keep you motivated about the mission?
All of our clients have unique stories, but they have one thing in common, all are hard working Americans who put in the time, sweet & blood to qualify and obtain a new home.
Question 5: What do you do in your professional life before Habitat, and how did that draw you here?
My profession is a Renovation Mortgage Banker. I lend money to people who want to buy houses and turn them into homes. I was drawn into Habitat years ago to help those individuals who could not qualify for a traditional mortgage.
