Question 1: How long have you been involved with Habitat, and what got you interested in the organization?
I joined the Habitat board in February 2011. A friend asked me if I would be interested in joining the board. This affiliate was beginning to rebuild itself after some rough times under the direction of past board members. I enjoy problem-solving and rebuilding organizations so I joined.
Question 2: Do you get involved in builds personally? If so, what do you like working on?
I have been involved in several builds and enjoy all aspects of a build. Being a part of a build and watching the progress from start to finish is very exciting.
Question 3: Habitat has been around a long time, but people sometimes have misconceptions. What is a myth that you’d like to correct about the program?
The misconception I would like to correct is that Habitat homes are given to the family. Habitat families buy their homes and work very hard to earn the right to buy them.
Question 4: Do you have any personal stories of interactions with clients that keep you motivated about the mission?
Every Habitat home dedication keeps me motivated about the mission. It is impossible to watch a family receive the keys to their home and not be changed by being a part of the experience.
Question 5: What do you do in your professional life before Habitat, and how did that draw you here?
I am a CPA and have been a partner is a large public accounting firm for the past 35 years. My financial and business experience has been beneficial to the board and this affiliate.
